Introducing the Asylum Sweater: Exploration of Shape and Restraint in Fashion
In the world of fashion, boundaries are meant to be challenged, reshaped, and redefined. With our first drop, the Asylum Sweater, we bring you a piece that dares to explore the edge of structure, silhouette, and form.
A Reimagining of Restraint
The Asylum Sweater takes its inspiration from a stark and unconventional source: the straitjacket. The idea for this piece emerged from the statement a straitjacket makes. Traditionally a symbol of restraint and confinement, the straitjacket evokes raw, unapologetic energy—a theme that resonates deeply with the brand's focus on individual expression.
At Closure, the design comes first. The Asylum Sweater reflects our obsession with silhouette and shape, even if that means sacrificing elements of comfort or conventional wearability. We make deliberate design choices—from the cropped, boxy fit to the exaggerated proportions—to stay true to the form and concept of the piece, prioritizing vision over mass appeal.
A Statement of Shape and Form
At its core, the Asylum Sweater is about shape: angular, bold, and irregular. Crafted in deep black, the sweater’s color speaks to the aware. The sharply structured shoulders and unconventional stitching mimic the sharp, binding lines of a straitjacket, creating a silhouette that is being kept in the mind
The deliberate cropped fit, though unconventional, serves a purpose. It accentuates the shoulders and arms, exaggerating proportions to create a bold visual impact. While some might view this as a challenge to comfort or wearability, for us, it is a statement: the shape matters more.
Structure Over Softness
To achieve its architectural shape, the Asylum Sweater is crafted from a thick fabric composed of 80% cotton and 20% polyester. This blend was chosen intentionally to limit the possibilities of wearing the piece casually. Polyester provides durability and ensures the garment retains its shape, while cotton delivers breathability and a refined texture.
The decision to include polyester was made to reduce creasing—a flaw often seen in 100% cotton garments. The sweater is meant to maintain its striking form without compromising its visual impact. With additional elements like the stripes and metal accents, the fabric's durability becomes essential, ensuring the sweater withstands its sculptural intent over time.
In fashion, structure often demands trade-offs, and the Asylum Sweater embraces this fully. It is not about absolute comfort—it is about the form, the shape, and the impression it leaves.
